Metal building & roof-deck retrofit
Metal Building Insulation Retrofit
Many older metal buildings have insulation that is damaged, compressed, deteriorated, poorly performing or simply inadequate for how the building is used today.
Why buildings need it
When the insulation overhead stops doing its job
Retrofitting those buildings is difficult because the interior may contain production equipment, racking, offices, process lines or active tenants.
AIC provides commercial retrofit insulation for existing metal buildings and roof-deck assemblies. A project can include removal and replacement of existing insulation, new faced fiberglass systems, selective upgrades and coordination with concurrent roofing or restoration work.
- Insulation that is sagging, compressed or falling
- Torn or damaged facing
- Insulation soaked by roof leaks
- Condensation dripping on product or equipment
- Pest damage
- A roof replacement or restoration that exposes the old system
- An energy audit, insurance or food-safety inspection finding
How we approach it
Planned around your operation
The key difference: AIC plans for the building as it actually operates. Work may be phased by area and scheduled around access windows, production requirements and other trades.
The exact installation method is developed for each project and discussed during the site review and proposal, not published here.

Where it fits
Typical buildings
Manufacturing plants
Production areas, process lines and equipment that stay in place.
Warehouses & distribution centers
Racking, inventory and daily traffic below the roof deck.
Metal commercial buildings
Large clear-span buildings with aging under-deck insulation.
Aircraft, vehicle & equipment facilities
Hangars, shops and service buildings.
Agricultural & processing facilities
Buildings where moisture and temperature matter.
Facilities being re-roofed or restored
The moment the old insulation is most accessible.
Systems
Commercial fiberglass systems
AIC installs faced and unfaced fiberglass, batt insulation and other specified systems for roof decks, ceilings and walls. For large metal-building retrofits, faced fiberglass can provide both thermal insulation and a clean interior-facing finish when properly specified.
Questions
Retrofit questions
Can you replace old insulation under an existing metal roof?
In many buildings, yes. The exact solution depends on the roof structure, existing insulation, access, condition of the building and the project objectives. AIC evaluates retrofit options rather than assuming the roof or building must be emptied to do the work.
Can you work while a commercial roofer is replacing or restoring the roof?
Yes, provided the project is properly coordinated. Interior insulation work and roofing activity often affect one another, so sequencing, access and responsibility for each work area should be established before work begins.
Do we have to shut down our facility to replace or upgrade insulation?
Not necessarily. Many retrofit projects can be evaluated for phased work, off-hours scheduling or defined work zones. Whether that is practical depends on access, equipment, safety requirements, the existing insulation system and the facility’s operations. AIC reviews those conditions before recommending an approach.
Have an aging metal-building insulation system?
Send the building size, photos and what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you the right next step.
